up to £500 per day (Outside IR35)
Initial 6-month rolling contract (12–18 months expected)

Company Overview

Our client is a leading contractor within the UK infrastructure and environment sector, delivering complex water and wastewater projects across major frameworks. With a reputation for technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation, they’re delivering critical AMP8 work, focused on sustainable treatment, non-infrastructure, and environmental improvement schemes through to 2030.

Project Overview

This opportunity covers two key wastewater treatment upgrade schemes in Hertfordshire:

Treatment works upgrade to ensure Low P compliance, including new ferric dosing, humus tanks, storm inlet systems, and associated civils and access works.

Full site upgrade including inlet pumping station, flow reception chamber, screening plant, storm tank installation, chemical dosing, MCC upgrades, clarifier, and reed bed modifications.

Both sites are at early to mid-stages of delivery and form part of a critical AMP8 investment programme.

Role Overview

The M&E Project Engineer will play a key coordination role across both sites, supporting delivery from early investigation and design through to commissioning and handover.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you’ll ensure all mechanical and electrical packages are delivered safely, efficiently, and to programme, while maintaining strong links between design, site teams, and the client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead M&E coordination across both projects, resolving design queries and ensuring quality delivery.

  • Support the full project lifecycle from outline design through commissioning and client handover.

  • Oversee subcontractor engagement, material procurement, and documentation control.

  • Produce and review RAMS, ITPs, commissioning plans, and project documentation.

  • Attend and contribute to design reviews, hazard studies, and site progress meetings.

  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and environmental standards.

  • Support commercial and cost-to-complete reporting as required.

About You

You’ll bring proven experience in mechanical or electrical project engineering, ideally within the water, wastewater, or process industries. Strong communication and coordination skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with delivery teams, design partners, and clients.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • ONC / HNC / HND / Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical bias).

  • ECS / CSCS Card.

  • Thames Water Passport (advantageous).

  • Strong understanding of H&S, documentation, and commissioning processes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and reporting tools.

  • Able to travel between sites as required.

Package

  • Day Rate: £500 per day outside IR35

  • Contract Length: 6 months initially (rolling to 12–18 months)

  • Hours: 07:30 – 17:30, Monday to Friday

  • Start: ASAP

This is an exciting opportunity to join a major water framework project, supporting the delivery of sustainable infrastructure that will shape environmental performance across the Thames region for years to come.
