Train Cleaner

Night Shift Role

Based in Hornsey

6-month initial contract with the opportunity to join on a permanent basis.

£13.85p/h

Ganymede Solutions are working with the largest UK Train Operating Company (currently posting revenues of over £8.9Billion the last seven years), who are seeking to recruit a Train Cleaner to join the Train Presentation team based at their railway depot in Hornsey. Ganymede Solutions are a stock market recognised recruitment agency, specialising in the transportation, infrastructure, construction and engineering sectors on both permanent and contract basis.

Our client covers the Southeast, Greater London & East Anglia areas – this includes Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, London & Hertfordshire. As a result of this, they have a large fleet of trains – 516 to be precise, so it's safe to say you will be active & busy within your role!

Ganymede are looking to hire someone with a ‘go getter’ attitude who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and can lead a team by example.

The Role:

As a Train Cleaner, you will be expected to carry out three different types of cleaning, which are listed below. Your main types of cleaning will be full cleans and external/handbashing cleans, with some deep/heavy cleans also.

Deep/Heavy Cleans – Perform cleaning on areas of the train where it is not visible to the public eye on the interior of the train (as in pulling out seats, cleaning around panels, back of toilets, etc). Typical duties include hoovering, buffering, wiping down surfaces, cleaning toilets, changing bins, CET tanking and picking up litter.

Full Cleans – Similar to deep cleaning, this is to clean what is visible to the public eye, but it is only cleaning what is in the public’s view on the interior of the train. Typical duties include hoovering, buffering, wiping down surfaces, cleaning toilets, changing bins, checking the sanding levels and picking up litter.

External/Handbashing Cleans – Performing external cleaning on the outside of the train, such as applying cleaning solutions and using them to clean off any graffiti and dirt.

This role is very physically demanding, you will be on your feet the whole shift and will be expected to pull yourself and the cleaning equipment up onto the train throughout your shift. You will be cleaning in all conditions, so we need someone who is resilient and can work in the pouring rain amongst other weather conditions.

The Hours:

As a Train Cleaner, you will work five shifts across a Sunday to Saturday roster, so we are ideally looking for someone who is flexible to work weekends. You will be guaranteed at least 35 hours of work a week. The hours of work across Monday – Saturday are from 22:30 – 05:30, and the Sunday working hours are from 22:00 – 06:00.

Remuneration & Benefits:

This rail company has on offer the following for contract staff:

  • Standard Hours (35 hours standard per week) - £13.85 p/h - Pay increase to £15.76p/h after 12 weeks as part of Agency Workers' Rights
  • Overtime & Rest Days - £20.78 p/h
  • Sunday Nights - £24.24 p/h
  • Full PPE and comprehensive on-the-job training provided

Requirements:

  • Be able to pass a Drugs & Alcohol test
  • Provide your Right to Work documents before deployment
  • Happy to help mentality/attitude, someone who is proactive, can think for themselves
  • A decent fitness is needed as the site is very large and will involve a lot of walking, so please keep this in mind when applying
  • Be able to attend 1 day of training – this will cover track safety, depot safety and train safety
