Senior Quantity Surveyor

Salary: £65,000 – £72,000 + car/allowance + package
Type: Permanent
Office format: Hybrid (3 days office / 2 days remote)

Due to continued project growth and increased demand for commercial expertise, we are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s well-established commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a thriving business within the infrastructure sector. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial, costing, and contract reports for inclusion in the monthly accounts package.

  • Provide commercial briefings to Project Managers, covering bill of quantities, specifications, and contractual implications for both current and upcoming projects.

  • Monitor project costs against tenders, budgets, and contractual agreements, highlighting any significant issues to the Commercial Manager.

  • Support the preparation and submission of tender enquiries and pricing strategies, ensuring alignment with the company’s commercial goals.

  • Act as a key contact for clients, providing and receiving cost information, managing variations, and ensuring proper authorisation for changes.

  • Raise variation orders and claims as required, ensuring all contractual processes are followed and documented correctly.

  • Ensure cost control measures are in place and adhered to, delivering best value from suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies, recommending solutions to senior management.

  • Prepare and deliver monthly reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership.

  • Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to set and manage annual budgets, monitor capital expenditure, and ensure financial compliance.

  • Manage and lead a team of commercial staff, setting clear objectives, providing ongoing support and development, and ensuring high performance.

  • Promote effective communication across departments and ensure accurate dissemination of commercial information.

  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others affected by your actions at work.

  • Ensure all work under your responsibility complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.

  • Report any risks, near misses, or concerns to management promptly.

  • Only undertake safety-critical work if appropriately trained and certified; do not direct others unless they are fully competent and authorised.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying

  • Proven experience in UK infrastructure projects (e.g. rail, highways, or civil engineering)

  • Strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills

  • Proactive and solution-focused mindset

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in the rail sector
