Duration: 12 months

A major infrastructure contractor is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Project Engineer to support the development and mobilisation of complex water and wastewater projects.
This role focuses on the critical pre-construction and design phases of project delivery, ensuring schemes are properly planned, technically coordinated and commercially positioned before construction begins. The successful candidate will work closely with pre-construction teams, designers, planners and procurement specialists to develop robust target costs, risk registers and delivery strategies while ensuring design solutions are aligned with programme and buildability requirements.
The Senior Preconstruction Project Engineer will play a key role in coordinating operational input during the early stages of project development. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure that civil and MEICA design development supports an effective delivery strategy and that projects are fully prepared before progressing to construction.
You will review and coordinate design deliverables produced by design partners, ensuring they comply with contractual, regulatory and technical requirements. The role also involves supporting procurement teams during tender stages by reviewing technical specifications, responding to technical queries and assisting with the technical assessment of subcontractor submissions.
Another important aspect of the position is coordinating surveys, testing and site investigations required to support design development. These activities help ensure the design is informed by site conditions and that delivery planning is fully developed before mobilisation.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and clients, you will also contribute to governance and approval processes, ensuring design information progresses efficiently through review stages. You will act as a technical interface with the client where required, assisting with the resolution of technical queries and maintaining alignment between design development and project objectives.
As projects approach delivery, the role will support the transition from pre-construction into operational delivery by ensuring design information, procurement strategies and delivery planning are fully coordinated with site teams.
Candidates must have a strong MEICA engineering background and demonstrable experience working on water or wastewater infrastructure projects. A solid understanding of the design and pre-construction stages of project delivery within the water sector is essential.
Applicants should hold an HND, HNC or degree in a relevant engineering discipline and have proven experience supporting infrastructure projects through design development and pre-construction phases. Strong communication skills, good commercial awareness and the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams will be key to success in the role.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a key role in shaping project delivery during the early stages of major water infrastructure schemes.
