If you are looking for an exceptional position where you can showcase your innovative leadership style and significant pre-contract skills, then keep reading. This is a major position which will not only give you the opportunity to take the work winning lead across the entire Northern region of England for a huge contractor but will also see you acting as a key role model in the progressive development of a 20-person bid team. If you’ve been looking for a position where you can really put your experience to the test and exhibit maximum autonomy and decision making, then this is for you.

The Opportunity:

Based in a rail division with a turnover in excess of £150 million, you will take lead of a bid team who are currently responsible for 50% of the company’s annual turnover and you will oversee bids and tender from pre-qualification right through to award or rejection. As you gather intel on what projects you think will be right for the company, you will then play a massive part in the decision making of ‘what’ to tender for and what to reject at source. Reporting into the Commercial Director, you will be involved in weekly meetings on how you can maintain existing frameworks as well as continuing to grow to maximum success. Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Reinforcing positive and strong leadership in the training, development, Performance development reviews and everyday management duties of the team.
  • Using data management processes to analyse tender success, identify strengths and nullify or disregard weakness with a major emphasis on strategy.
  • Being the escalation point for obtaining information for technical, commercial, planning, and HSQE information.
  • Using your industry ‘buildability’ experience to concisely monitor, evaluate and improve the company’s presence in the Northern region.

The Company

Established as a key supplier to Network Rail amongst others, you will be joining an award-winning provider of engineering services into the rail, highways, waterways, and utilities sectors. Recognised as being helpful, professional, and innovative contractors, as part of this team you will be expected to lead continuous improvement initiatives that will increase engagement and profile with key customers that optimise works delivery.

This is key to the spirit of this organisations culture, where safety of its workforce is naturally its number one priority, followed by teamwork and providing opportunity for real career growth.

Remuneration and benefits

An impressive package is available consisting of a basic salary of £80,000 - £85,000, plus company car or car allowance, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, flexible working, Private Medical Insurance, Pension, Life insurance, support and funding of chartership.

About You

If you are a natural leader who reigns supreme in taking a team to a prodigious level, has a significant level of experience in bid winning and tender input as well as crucial ‘buildability’ knowledge within infrastructure, then you are already on the right track to step into this role. With the most important factors of your experience lying in your leadership and work winning background, this means there is a vast range of where this role can evolve from. You could be a Senior Project Manager who has dealt with the pre-contract stages of a project or a Commercial Manager who also possess’ that crucial on-site knowledge. Due to the technical side of the role, it is essential that you hold an HND/HND/BSc minimum in Civil engineering or a relevant area.
