Planner / Senior Planner – Major Rail Upgrade Programme

Location: Yorkshire / North West (site-based 4 days per week)
Rate: £450–£550 per day (Inside IR35, via Umbrella)
Contract: 12 months initially (strong potential to extend)
Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Planner or Senior Planner to join one of the largest infrastructure projects in the North of the UK – a multi-billion-pound rail enhancement and electrification programme. This is a rare chance to play a key role on a career-defining scheme, upgrading transport links between major northern cities.

What’s in it for you?

  • Long-term contract on a flagship £2bn+ rail programme
  • Highly competitive day rate – £450–£550 inside IR35
  • Be part of a respected, supportive, and collaborative planning team
  • A client renowned for being second to none in how they treat their contract workforce
  • Work on major civil engineering packages including bridges, stations, structures, and earthworks

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project programmes (Primavera P6 experience desirable)
  • Work closely with project delivery teams to ensure accurate and realistic planning
  • Identify risks, delays, and opportunities, recommending effective mitigation measures
  • Produce progress updates, dashboards, and reports for stakeholders
  • Provide a strong site presence (expected 4 days per week) to engage with engineers and delivery teams
  • Support performance tracking, earned value, and forecasting

About You

We are looking for a hands-on, proactive planner with experience across civil engineering sectors such as rail, highways, water, or structures. You will be:

  • An experienced Planner or Senior Planner (not just a scheduler)
  • Organised, detail-driven, and able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Strong in stakeholder engagement, with excellent command of the English language
  • Confident working closely with project teams on site
