Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 8am–4pm
Pay: £17.17 Umbrella / £13.50 PAYE

We’re recruiting an Industrial Cleaning Operative to join a leading rail company in Southampton.

In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient environment across key depot facilities, supporting the teams that keep freight services running across the UK.

You’ll help ensure trains are spotless, safe, and ready each morning, providing a welcoming experience for passengers.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be carrying out heavy industrial cleaning within a live rail depot environment, including:

  • Cleaning pits, sheds, and depot interiors to safety and operational standards
  • Removing oil, grease, and industrial residues from equipment and underframes
  • Working around heavy rail machinery and maintenance teams
  • General housekeeping
  • Owning your area, making sure it is kept in a safe & clean environment
  • Supporting safe working practices across the site.

To succeed, you will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to high standards, with the physical capability to carry out active, hands-on duties. Experience in cleaning, industrial, or manual work is advantageous but not essential, what matters most is your work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in your work. This is hands-on, physical work in a fast-paced environment, ideal for someone who takes pride in doing essential work behind the scenes.

We’d love to hear from you if you have experience in any of the following:

Heavy industrial, factory, or depot cleaning

Plant, workshop, or engineering environments

Manual, physical work where safety and teamwork are key

You’ll need to be reliable, hardworking, and comfortable with manual, physically demanding tasks.

A safety induction will be provided, and all applicants must successfully complete a rail medical and drug & alcohol screening before starting.
