Supporting the Severn Valley Railway
Supporting the Severn Valley RailwayThe Rail Industry Joins Forces to Keep Heritage on TrackAt Ganymede Solutions, we believe the rail industry is built not only on innovation and engineering excellence but also on community, heritage and collaboration. That’s why we were proud to join a recent industry-wide volunteer effort at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR), a vital heritage line that preserves the history and legacy of British rail. The companies taking part included Ganymede, A P Webb, AWE Technologies, Balfour Beatty, Central Rail Systems Alliance, CML, Colas, Crown Group, Forestry, Rail & Civils Ltd, Interflon, Network Rail, Rail Power and Construction Ltd, Shannon Rail, Staytite, Vital and VP Rail.A Shared Commitment to Rail ExcellenceWhen the SVR issued a call for assistance with essential maintenance and vegetation clearance along its 16-mile route, the response from the wider rail community was immediate and enthusiastic. For us at Ganymede, stepping in to help wasn’t just an act of support, it was a reflection of who we are and our core values. Our colleagues, Gareth Jackson, Tyler Cook and Lina Oprisnykbrought decades of collective experience and rail-specific know-how to the table. Partnering with other leading industry names, our team contributed to the safe and efficient completion of critical infrastructure works, allowing SVR to maintain high safety standards and operational readiness ahead of peak summer season.People are our PassionOur involvement at SVR echoes our core value: People are our Passion. It was inspiring to see skilled professionals from across the UK come together, donating their time, tools, and talent to a shared cause. What made this project truly special was the shared passion evident in every conversation on-site. From clearing embankments and managing vegetation to ensuring safety protocols were rigorously followed, everyone contributed with purpose and pride.Gareth Jackson, P Way Recruitment Consultant said: "It was a pleasure to be asked to help support ‘The Orange Army All Stars’, as a Handback on the Severn Valley Railway. This opportunity highlighted the capabilities we have within our team, to not only be a labour support provider, but a delivery team as well. Seeing the blend of traditional and modern railway methods used and how everyone came together to get the line open again, is an experience that will stay with me for a long time." Lina Oprisnyk, Gareth Jackson and Tyler CookLooking AheadAt Ganymede, we’re proud to support both the future and the foundations of the rail industry. Our thanks go out to the Severn Valley Railway for welcoming us, and to our fellow contributors across the sector.

Rail Safe Friendly
Ganymede sign up to Rail Safe Friendly programme at partner level Our ethos of ‘Safety First, Safety Always’ is a core element of all that we do. However, this does not only include those working for us. It extends to all those who utilise the railway in any way, from those who travel by train to children who simply must use a level-crossing to get to school. As such, we have partnered with Rail Safe Friendly to help spread this essential message of safety to as many members of the public as possible, particularly those who are unaware of the dangers that come with being near the track. Rail Safe Friendly provides schools and the rail industry with an opportunity to work together towards a common goal to improve rail safety in all schools across the UK.Through this partnership, we are sponsoring 10 schools local to our regional offices to ensure they receive Network Rail approved safety training and videos at no cost to the schools.Stuart Heaton, Managing Director of Rail Safe Friendly, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ganymede to the Rail Safe Friendly programme. It is through the rail industry working together to promote this vital education programme that we are able to deliver rail safety messages to young people across the country. Ganymede’s support means that we will be able to reach even more children with this critical rail safety awareness in order to prevent injuries and save lives.”Gary Lobue, Head of HSEQ at Ganymede Solutions said: "Education plays a vital role in rail safety. It is our aim to help young people and children engage in safe behaviour around our railways and what an incentive to partner Rail Safe Friendly and join their journey to promote safety in schools throughout Britain."We look forward to building relationships with these schools, also utilising our recruitment expertise to support them with employability advice and opening the minds of students to the careers available in STEM.

Understanding the Upcoming Umbrella Company Legislation and Joint & Several Liability
Understanding the Upcoming Umbrella Company Legislation and Joint & Several LiabilityOn 6 April 2026, new rules under the Finance Bill 2025-26, introduced through the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003, will come into force, changing how responsibility for PAYE and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) is shared across labour supply chains. The legislation introduces joint and several liability, meaning that liability for unpaid tax can extend beyond the umbrella company to include recruitment agencies and, in some cases, end clients.Implications for Agencies and ClientsWhile the legislation aims to raise standards and reduce non-compliance across the umbrella market, it represents a significant change in risk allocation. HMRC will have discretion to pursue any party in the chain, whether the umbrella, agency, or client, for unpaid PAYE and NICs. This creates a strong incentive for all parties to maintain oversight and ensure compliance throughout the supply chain. The position for clients is also important, as liability can extend to an end client if the umbrella company is engaged directly, or where the umbrella is engaged through a connected person. This might include a parent company, subsidiary, or another entity with shared ownership or control. In other words, liability may arise even where the contractual structure appears at first glance to sit elsewhere in the chain.Ganymede’s ApproachAs an FCSA Recruiter Partner, Ganymede is working closely with its umbrella supply chain to maintain transparency and oversight. The focus is on due diligence, compliance monitoring, and collaboration across the supply chain to strengthen accountability. These measures are designed to ensure that all parties in the chain operate in line with the new legislation, helping to safeguard both Ganymede and our clients from potential exposure under the joint and several liability rules. We have also sought the perspective of the FCSA to reflect the wider industry approach. Deb Murphy, Head of Operations at the FCSA, said:“Joint and several liability makes one thing absolutely clear, every link in the supply chain needs to be confident in who they are working with and how compliance is being managed.Using accredited providers is more important than ever, and FCSA Accreditation gives agencies and clients independent assurance that the umbrellas they engage meet the highest standards. In addition, tools like veriPAYE and Diligence Hub add an extra layer of transparency, allowing agencies to evidence payslip compliance, review financial stability, and maintain clear oversight. Strong partnerships, open communication, and consistently checking the basics will make all the difference as the new rules come into force.”This reinforces the importance of awareness across the supply chain and careful preparation ahead of the new legislation.More information on the draft legislation can be found here.
