Senior Quantity Surveyor – Water Infrastructure (NEC3/4 Option C)

Location: Buckinghamshire (Hybrid – 1–4 days per week on site)
Salary: £60,000–£70,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits
Type: Permanent
Sector: Tier 1 Civil Engineering Contractor

The Project

Join a major £30m+ upgrade to a key Waste Water Treatment Works in Buckinghamshire, part of the AMP8 investment cycle. This is a critical infrastructure project delivering clean water to thousands of homes — and it’s just one piece of a secured long-term pipeline of work.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a hands-on commercial role from day one — reporting into the Managing QS and Commercial Manager. You’ll be trusted to manage subcontractor accounts, identify cost-saving opportunities, and lead the full commercial lifecycle of this flagship project.

You’ll be working under an NEC3/4 Option C contract on a high-profile scheme that blends complexity with long-term stability. Ideal for someone who thrives on detail, sees risk as something to be managed (not avoided), and enjoys ‘finding the money’ others might miss.

⚙️ What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage subcontractor packages from procurement through to final account
  • Own the change management process — including compensation event pricing
  • Issue notices and applications in line with the NEC contract
  • Produce CVRs and support forecasting across the commercial team
  • Work closely with engineering and delivery teams to ensure accurate site records
  • Identify risks and opportunities that impact project margins
  • Build strong client and subcontractor relationships for long-term benefit
  • Support and mentor junior commercial staff when needed

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience with NEC3/4 Option C contracts
  • Background in Water or broader Civil Engineering infrastructure
  • Strong commercial awareness with a forensic eye for contract detail
  • Experience managing high-value subcontract packages
  • Capable communicator and team player – comfortable influencing stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Oracle, CEMAR, or similar systems (preferred)
  • Ideally degree-qualified with MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent (or working towards)

Why This Role?

This isn’t just a job — it’s a long-term opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading contractors in water infrastructure, on a project with genuine scale and social impact. You’ll be involved from the early stages, building a deep understanding of a major asset and shaping commercial strategy alongside experienced leaders.

You’ll also benefit from:

  • A healthy pipeline of AMP8 work in the region
  • Progression pathways into Managing QS / Commercial Manager roles
  • Flexible working to suit your lifestyle
  • Support for professional development and chartership

What’s On Offer

  • £60,000–£70,000 base salary
  • Car allowance + full benefits package
  • Hybrid working – 1–2 days per week on site to start, rising to ~3
  • 28 days’ holiday + bank holidays
  • Private healthcare, pension, and structured career development
