We are seeking an experienced and driven Geotechnical Engineer to join our clients rapidly growing team. As a member of the technical department, you will play a key role in delivering complex geotechnical design packages from initial feasibility through to final approval. This role will involve close collaboration with clients, mentorship of junior team members, and strategic development of our in-house technical capabilities. Working alongside the Technical Director, you will also contribute to expanding the scope of our services and enhancing our clients presence within the industry.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Preparation and Review of Design Packages:
Oversee the development of detailed geotechnical design documents, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. Conduct thorough reviews of technical reports and drawings, maintaining the highest levels of quality, safety, and technical accuracy. -
Engage in Early-Stage Feasibility and Costing with Clients and Internal Teams:
Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders at the concept and feasibility stage of projects. Provide expert advice on ground conditions, foundation options, and preliminary geotechnical solutions to inform cost-effective and buildable designs. -
Mentor and Support Junior Engineers:
Provide guidance, oversight, and technical support to less experienced engineers. Assist with their professional development, offering training and feedback to help them grow their technical skillset and progress toward chartership. -
Attend and Contribute to Client Meetings:
Represent the company in project meetings, technical discussions, and progress reviews. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-specialist stakeholders and foster strong, long-term client relationships. -
Coordinate Geotechnical Investigations and Testing Requirements:
Assess site investigation needs based on project scope and geological context. Plan and oversee in-situ and laboratory testing programs, interpreting results to inform robust engineering decisions. -
Drive the Expansion of In-House Technical Capabilities:
Work closely with the Technical Director to identify service gaps, introduce new technical capabilities, and implement best practices. Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement in the company’s geotechnical offerings.
Required Skills and Experience:

Relevant Academic Background:
Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree (MSc) in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is highly desirable. -
Chartered Professional Status:
Chartered status with a recognized institution such as the Geological Society (CGeol) or Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng/ICE) is essential, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence and development. - Desireable -
Proven Industry Experience:
A minimum of five years’ experience in geotechnical or civil engineering, with a strong track record of contributing to complex infrastructure or development projects. -
Proficiency in Geotechnical Design Software:
Familiarity with current industry-standard software for geotechnical analysis and design (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, or similar) to produce accurate and compliant designs. -
Working Knowledge of AutoCAD:
Competent in using AutoCAD to produce and review engineering drawings, layouts, and design details. -
Client-Facing Experience:
Demonstrated ability to engage directly with clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored technical solutions that align with project objectives. -
Understanding of Design Standards and Codes:
Strong working knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards related to geotechnical design, particularly in the design of retaining structures and slope stability assessments.
