Job Title: Train Cleaner - Night Shift at Bedford Carriage Sidings

Contract Length: 6 Month Initial Contract (Temp – Perm)

Interviews/Start Date: Video Interview with an immediate start available on  Monday 22nd August after passing a Drug & Alcohol Test.

We have several new openings available to join a leading train operating company as a Train Cleaner, performing a range of exterior cleaning tasks to ensure the trains are meeting the required cleanliness standards for passenger service.

The Candidate:

We are seeking diligent, physical, reliable and active individuals who have a background in Industrial Cleaning, Manual Labour or similar experience which requires you to be active, on your feet and using your physical capabilities on a daily basis etc…to join a leading train operating company as a Train Cleaner on their busy night shift operation at Bedford Carriage Sidings to perform a range of exterior cleaning tasks to ensure the trains are clean & presentable for passenger service the next morning.

The Role:

As a Train Cleaner, you shall be tasked with cleaning the exteriors of the trains which include hand-bashing (based outside of the train using large mops with cleaning solutions to wipe the trains exterior areas clean) and graffiti removal (this is also exterior cleaning of the trains to remove damage and return the train back to it’s original & clean state) This role will see you use specialist cleaning equipment & chemicals where the trains are stationed in an outdoor area, with on-the-job training provided where you shall also be trained to perform interior cleaning (this is an additional requirement for staff to be able to perform as cover)

This role has the potential to lead to a permanent position in the future, with opportunities to progress as a Team Leader, Duty Leader and more within the train presentation area of the business. However, with the organisation experiencing huge growth plans, there are also opportunities to progress within engineering, customer service and other key areas of the business.


A highly desired & skilled role requires you to be physically fit, have a positive attitude with effective communication skills, a strong work ethic, reliability & flexibility to work weeknights and weekends as part of a 7-night roster with typical working hours being 00:00am – 07:00am Monday – Friday with the rostered hours subject to change due to train arrivals and timetable changes, with the earliest start being 18:00pm for a 7/8 hour shift.

Training commences Monday 22nd August

Rates of Pay

  • Standard Hours (35 hours standard per week) - £11.23 p/h
  • Overtime - £16.73 p/h
  • Sunday Nights - £19.52 p/h
