Senior Quantity Surveyor - £55,000 + Company Car or Car Allowance

Derby, Derbyshire (Remote)

About the Company & Project

Since being acquired by their parent company in 2011, they have grown their annual turnover contribution from £75m to £300m, a company who are definitely on the rise! They specialise in rail, civil engineering, building, M&E, renewals, and maintenance with the likes of Network Rail, Canal & River Trust, London Underground, Environmental Agency, Magnox, and Highways England. They have a growing team of c.1100 permanent members of staff including 650 directly employed, multi-skilled operative and are backed by a comprehensive workforce of 450 engineers, project managers and specialist support services staff – which minimizes exposure to subcontractors and ensures cogent delivery across design and implementation. The business in underpinned by 36 separate framework agreements with 12 different customers although the main bulk of their work is in rail (delivering over £184m last year) with two distinct parts of the business-IP (This is where they undertake the larger schemes such as bridge replacements and embankment stabilisations) and Asset Management including minor works such as earthworks, bridge repair, vegetation, painting, and tunnels.

About the Role

The Midlands regional office is based out of Derby and covers an array of traditional Network Rail Frameworks and tendered projects. Note that even though the office is in Derby, the Company are open to having their Senior Quantity Surveyor work from home for a few days per week so with that in mind they are considering candidates outside of the typical 30 mile radius. With more and more work coming in, there is a requirement to bring in a Senior Quantity Surveyor to assist with the following:  

  • Prompt presentation of all applications for payment, including all contractual entitlements.
  • Ensuring that payments are received in accordance with the contract terms.
  • Prompt submission of estimate/tendering information to the client.
  • Prompt presentation of Final Accounts, including negotiation of all contractual entitlements.
  • Prompt presentation of weekly cost/value information, delivery schedules and associated Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data.
  • Preparation and presentation of Monthly Cost/Value Reconciliations and Final Cost/Value Forecasts.
  • Preparation and presentation of forward work schedules and cash flows.
  • Procurement, negotiation and placing of Sub-contract Orders.
  • Financial and commercial management of Sub-contractors through to settlement of their Final Accounts.
  • Ensuring that all contractual letters/ notices and information are presented in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Preparation of appropriate documentation in support of additional payment, variations, claims etc.
  • Commercial support to the site and contracts management team.
  • Commercial support to the Estimating and Procurement teams.
  • Overview and support of Quantity Surveyors under training as appropriate.
  • Close liaison with the client on all commercial matters, including preparation and submission of supporting information.

Remuneration

  • Competitive salary of up to £55,000
  • Company car or car allowance

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor OR an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step up
  • Rail experience would be ideal however someone with civil engineering (NEC) experience would succeed in this position
  • Experience working with Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying
