Mechanical Rolling Stock Engineer

About the Role

This Rolling Stock Engineer position is a key role within the Fleet Optimisation department, which will provide you with the opportunity to be involved with the Performance and Reliability with a wide range of fleets across the company’s portfolio. You'll be providing engineering leadership, supporting a variety of train systems and optimisation. As part of the Engineering Services Team, you will provide expert-level support for overhaul activities.

You will participate with technical issues and investigations, and providing expertise in mitigating future problems by developing modification procedures required to improve safety and performance.

About You

As part of the Optimisation team, you’ll be working closely with depot engineers and train operators, to understand technical performance issues, and liaising with them to implement procedures to ensure fleet reliability is at the optimum levels required. You'll be experience in providing your expertise in rolling stock performance and reliability, maintenance optimisation, component overhaul and repair regimes. Utilising standard engineering tools e.g. RAMS.  You will undertake component condition assessments to support the development and improvement of rolling stock maintenance regimes, and produce recommendations for re-engineering and repair processes as applicable.

 

The Requirements

  • Previous experience of writing engineering documentation, technical reports, overhaul and maintenance instructions. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Rolling Stock Maintenance techniques and procedures. 
  • Experience of Rail Vehicle maintenance and repair activities.
  • In-depth knowledge of passenger or freight railway
  • Relevant Engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience regarding running maintenance and overhaul interval periodicity extensions
  • Experience of hierarchical maintenance practices such as MSG3
  • Experience of rail asset component condition monitoring or the use on-train or off train automatic vehicle inspection 
  • Experience of creating or maintain a condition based maintenance regime
