Quantity Surveyor – up to £50,000 + company car or car allowance + benefits

Newcastle upon Tyne

“An exciting role for a Quantity Surveyor looking for an opportunity for career development with a tier one contractor”.

The Company

This company are a part of a Dutch based engineering giant with a turnover of £5billion with operations in Europe and North America. The UK arm of the business is a group of companies with a combined turnover of £1billion including dedicated rail, civil engineering, highways, and construction divisions. This specific role is working within the rail division of the business, which since 2010, has seen their turnover grow ten-fold. The rail division has a rich history in infrastructure projects with a niche in the Construction and refurbishment of Maintenance Depots. They have been the Contractor of choice for the likes of Siemens and Hitachi over the past decade, building & refurbing depots for prestigious projects such as the IEP and Thameslink. The rail division has grown dramatically over the past 8 years from around £25million to a projected turnover of £150million. Recently the division rebranded to ‘Rail & Infrastructure’ to increase their offering to the market, and thus adopt a ‘systematic’ rail approach to other UK Infrastructure (such as aviation and private clients).

About the Role

A Quantity Surveyor is required to work within the rail division on a £70million rail maintenance depot in Newcastle. The Project is a design and build of a new ‘light rail’ train care facility to house their clients newly manufactured Class 42 Metro trains. The new trains will be delivered up to 2024 and will increase comfort and reliability on the Metro. The commercial team is currently made up of a Managing Quantity Surveyor and two other Quantity Surveyors responsible for specific disciplines on the contract. In your role as Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the building packages of the scheme (approx. £6million) including cladding, structural steel, fit-out and industrial shed construction.

In your role of Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial P&L of the building packages with interface with the other packages listed above. The various disciplines will be subcontracted out locally so subcontractor procurement and management skills are key. Along with various Quantity Surveying duties, you will be guiding an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who will split their time between the different elements of the scheme. Additionally, you will be working in conjunction with the Managing Quantity Surveyor to produce monthly CVRs.

  • Experienced Quantity Surveyor or someone ready for a step up to Senior Quantity Surveyor
