The Role

The Cost Engineer/Quantity surveyor’s key role is to manage through the commercial variations during project lifecycle for the business.  Daily tasks are following but not limited to:

  • Costing and estimating variations during projects.
  • Liaising with the process engineer to identify the scope change for the process design and then speak with the project team or suppliers directly about proposed costs for the change.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager to then take the proposed costing back to the customer to present and agree the variation for the work.  It will be led by the PM whether the variation is enforced on a case-by-case basis.
  • Ensuring all documentation produced for variations is following contractual standards of the business.
  • Following up to close out acceptance of variation
  • Providing advice to PMs based around these contractual standards
  • Feed variation data into project managers reports monthly to support on projecting cost to complete on projects.
  • Monitoring cash flow and billing milestones on projects
  • A typical project could have in excess of 10% of variations during its life cycle meaning the role is crucial to the commercial success of projects.

The Company

Our client delivers a process design consultancy and turnkey project management for process plant projects in the brewery, distillery, pharmaceutical and food markets.  The business has a trading history dating back to the 1700s and are recognised as the market leader in their fields.

About you

You must be able to show your experience in dealing with Commercial costing variations and previous experience of working heavy plant/manufacturing plant projects in previous roles. This role would be excellent for an applicant who is wanting to take a more developing role into senior management or lead role within the next 2 years.
