The upgrade of the UK’s motorway network to Smart Motorways is no secret, this will be Manchester’s first foray into the space. That being said, if you are an experienced Commercial Manager, who knows the ins and outs of the highways sector and has managed a good-sized team, then look no further for your next position.
When you are successful, as the Commercial Manager you will be taking a team of around eight direct reports under your wing, you will be tasked with managing, mentoring, and guiding them.
Alongside this you will be drilling down into subcontract documentation, commercial notices, monthly reports and CVRs. Outside of the more technical aspects of the position, the human factor is also extremely important as stakeholder management and engagement is a key feature of the role moving forwards, and you must be able to manage multiple streams of work, managing people of all levels and backgrounds.
You will also have autonomy to manage change, interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports and to make all key decisions relating to commercial matters.
For the first 18 months of the position it will be based on site in Manchester, the next project will most likely be based on site in the Peterborough area)
The business you will be working for as the Commercial Manager has been engaged by Highways England to deliver the first project of its kind in Manchester. They have won the business based on their excellent reputation in the industry and having partnered with Highways England and successfully delivered on a smorgasbord of large-scale highways projects.
You will be working for one of the top principal contractors in the UK, with and order book worth over £3 billion, meaning that the successful Commercial Manager can be certain of the longevity of the position.
Basic salary is subject to experience and is accompanied with ‘big company’ benefits including generous pension, holiday entitlement and private healthcare.
We are looking for the very best Commercial Manager who lives and breathes highways, and wants to pass on their knowledge, that being said previous management of a team of direct reports is absolutely essential for this Commercial Manager position.
